Crisis of Confidence
Why is Mamata roaming all over the country with a group of Singur residents whom she bandies around with placards around their necks proclaiming them as – victim’s relatives, when actually she should be in her own state and giving a helping hand to the increasing number of flood victims which are rising with each mm of extra rainfall? Is it that flood victims do not stir any feelings in her or is it that she is on her own trip to somehow muster power on her side and thus is on a nationwide jaunt engaging in confabulations with political heads of various shades.
Apart from the stark reality of Mamata’s total lack of sympathy or the will to do any good for the people of Bengal, her cross country movement also indicates how her so called trump card of Singur, which she has and is still trying to use has died its natural death. Singur, as of today in Bengal is a fizzled out proposition. Mamata realizes this aspect very well and is currently suffering a crisis of confidence. Her support base in her own state has eroded and that has now forced her to look for partners elsewhere. Her hunt to gather power is evident as per news report which appeared on 9th July in the Economic Times. We attach underneath the news report which is self explanatory and brings to the fore, the wishy washy person that Mamata is, and leaves one wondering - Does Mamata really care for anybody except for her own self? :
Mamata meets Jayalalithaa, fans speculation of her quitting NDA
TRINAMOOL Congress leader Mamata Banerjee’s sudden decision to meet Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa in Chennai on Sunday has fanned intense speculation about her possible entry into the newly revived Third Front.
Lately, Ms Bannerjee has been seen distancing herself from the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) of which till recently, she was a very vocal member. The root cause behind the differences have been over the Presidential candidature.
Ms Bannerjee had initially come out openly in support of NDA candidate Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, and even campaigned on his behalf with Third Front leaders like Chandrababu Naidu. But later, she announced that she would like President A P J Abdul Kalam to be reelected.
The timing, coming as it did soon after Ms Jayalalithaa’s announcement on behalf of the Third Front in a similar vein, has raised questions about Ms Banerjee’s long-term plans of staying with the NDA.
Besides, the Trinamool leader’s decision to spurn requests from all NDA leaders wishing to meet her during her visit to Delhi last week has further lent credence to speculation that she was deliberately trying to distance herself from the NDA.
She is on her way back to Kolkata after a successful trip to Kerala, where she traveled to underscore the plight of displaced farmers in the Singur site of the Tata Motors auto project.
The Third Front, which in its new avatar has been christened the United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA), has several leaders who are close to Ms Bannerjee including Mr. Chandrababu Naidu and Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh. She has been maintaining close contact with these leaders.
Ironically, she had till early June been trying to convince these leaders to vote for the NDA candidate in the Presidential elections. However, there may be one hitch for Ms Bannerjee. In its earlier form, the Third Front had the active support of the CPM-led Left Front. If that happens again in the future, Mamata may find it difficult to justify her presence in it.
It has never been easy to predict Mamata’s moves. For the moment, she refuses to show her cards. She termed her meeting with Jayalalithaa as merely an attempt to highlight the plight of displaced farmers in West Bengal. She told journalists that she planned to spread the word about her ongoing crusade against the Left Front government in West Bengal to all like-minded political parties.
However, she played safe and refrained from commenting on whether this was the beginning of the end of her journey with the BJP-led NDA.
Dear Mamata, we would wish, that instead of parading across the country, you would rather join hands with the ruling Govt. in your state and help to empower people of your own state or if you have better plans of empowering the people of Bengal in which Industrialization does not figure, then lets see you share that with the people. Let’s see some nation building ideas from you and your party. We will wait.

Mamata is an opportunist and hence unreliable politician. She has already shown that she would take up or dump any issue if it suits her. We still remember how often has walked in and out of NDA when it was in power. But for Vajpayee's magnanimity, her suicidal political moves would have ended career long ago. Of course, Jayalalithaa is no better and none would be surprised if the birds of the same feather take the same flight path. Chandrababu Naidu, Mulayam and others of the new front beware, the rotund ladies could spell doom for your yet-to-be born alliance.
Whether she likes it or not, Mamata's party is in a pathetic shape...its existence itself is a big question mark. And she knows how to play with peoples' sentiments. Singur for her is nothing but a political chessboard. She is simply marketing the 'victims' to gain whatever political mileage she can. There's no ideology...the only gameplan is to oppose anything the government does. So this 'mobile exhibition'is nothing but a circus of clowns moving from one town to another...we have a ring master (Mamata herself) and artists (placard bearing 'victims' / 'victim relatives'). But, it's a poor show...
The people of Singur should be educated on the issue and how they would benefit by Tata Motors' manufacturing unit in the area.
If people are educated, preconceptions can be erased.
This is nothing new but another of her publicity stunts. Instead she should concentrate more on poor villagers who are devastated by the flood in West Bengal. And how much these villagers will be benefited by the project (employment etc).
As a citizen of the state I am quite perturbed by the present socio-political scenario of West Bengal and bewildered about as to what lies ahead of me here. And I am not alone in feeling this. For all people having the desire to lead a peaceful and prosperous life is today filled with the same emotion. For long we have said that our state lacks industry and this is primarily because of the presence of militant trade union and a lack of desire to usher in industry on behalf o f the Govt prevalent in the state. However, this situation was changing at great pace with the Left Front coming to power in the last Assembly Elections. But alas, this seems not to have gone down too well with the opposition parties in the State.
I am quite appalled at the means and nature of the opposition that has stemmed from the Trinamool Congress, Congress and others. Almost a year ago it was these same parties who were accusing the CM and his Govt for not doing enough to attract investment and industry in the State. They even accused the State Govt of being responsible for the industrial backwardness that the state suffered from. Today when the Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s Govt is trying to convince the industrialists to invest in the state and also getting success in their efforts, the opposition seems to be determined to foil every such move of the Govt. They are even being shameless enough to completely overlook the prospect of the state’s economy and general sentiment of the people. Today we all want industrialization as this is the only way to generate more and more employment and wealth in the state.
Can our beloved Ms. Mamata Banerjee really say that economic progress and creation of wealth is possible without turning the wheels of industrialization. If not, then what is it for that she calls a bandh, road blockade, rallies, dharnas, hungerstrike every other day in the name of opposing industrialization in the grab of fighting for the cause of the poor farmers. Can she provide a alternative means through which we the youths of the State can get respectable jobs and earn a decent living. If she cannot, then why does she have to stall every activity in the state? Who is she doing this for… for the people and youths like us who are looking forward to get a job after we complete our education! If so will she be able to provide us with employment in this state by breathing unrest and blindly opposing the industrial policy of the state.
I want to ask one question to every one who is opposing industrialization that how we, the youth of this state will get jobs here if there is no industrialization? Or do they want us to leave our homes and go to other states in search of a better future? They would say that we are being selfish and only thinking about ourselves. Not quite. We all know that agricultural cannot generate employment for the huge number of youths passing out from the schools, colleges and universities in the state. This is only possible through industrialization. Thus, it is my earnest request to all concerned and to the media as well to play a positive and constructive role to boost the climate of industrialization in the state and not deter it. It is important not only for my future but for all youths like me and for the generations to come.
How is it that the Singur issue has occupied so much mindspace while all over India fly by night construction companies are adding hundreds of acres of land to their land banks?
By Mamta's logic, all land bank deals of construction companies also need to be looked into carefully. Why just new manufacturing project sites.
why is mamat going place for support....... the cause is pathetic..... and the alliance is even more worst... god save them..
Mamata has upped the ante by boycotting the Assembly on the Singur issue. Her stubborn resistance to the small car project can only go thus far and no further -- the agitation has reached a decisive phase.
Now she would lose in this do or die battle.
Mamata's so called bhukha michil thorugh out the country was completely a flop show, as she failed to gain the attention of delhi even by projecting the muslim minorities fore-foront. Giving by the sucess that Mamata had over her bhukha michil, she should immediately call off her remaining schedules on bhukha michil. If she is so bothered about the affected people, she should have put her energy for a constructive output that will benefit the common people, rather than planning for gaining her own political mileage
Today the people are becoming so mechanical, everyone is loosing the emotional feelings, everyone is bothered about self-interest. We the common people look up at the politicians as the representatives of the masses, who are supposed to keep aside their self interest for the common people. But here in our state we have a dynamic leader by the name - Mamata Banerjee who is only bothered about her own political image. She is so concerned that she even does not let go an opportunity which arises out of a murder. The day Tapasi was murder, Mamata was the one who jumped to it to take all the advantage. As aptly said by a senior CPI(M) leader that the parents of Tapasi with the blessings of Mamata is doing a good business with the death of their daughter, had they were concerned like now for their daughter then such mishap might have been avoided.
Get real Mamata! Wake up to the real situation in the State.Get you basic understanding right. Please understand the repercation of your absurd suggestions and loose comments.
Mamata has once again reinforced that she is not bothered about the youth of the state. It is sad that Mamata is against youths like me in Singur who have the real hope of getting a good job with this project. Mamata WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM IN LIFE? Why do you want to garner publicity by engaging in Cheap politics? Why dont you involve yourself in fundamental issues of the state rather than stalling a clean project.
Do you think youth like me will forgive you?
You have to answer to the heartburn that you are causing in the minds of a lot of people.....
